What Placemark is
A tool for keeping one correct record per business, finding places that record should be listed, and tracking the links and citations built from it. You use it to do the work. It does not do the work for you.
What it isn't
Placemark never submits a listing on your behalf. You paste your record into each directory yourself, under your own or your client's account. That's deliberate, and it has a consequence worth stating plainly: if you stop paying, every listing you've created stays exactly where it is. They were never ours to withdraw.
Findings are reports, not facts
This is the most important thing on this page.
Scans tell you what a page said. They do not tell you the page is right. A phone number found on a directory might be the correct one or a stale one, and Placemark cannot tell which. Every finding carries the page it came from precisely so you can check it, and nothing is written into your record without you approving it.
Copy written by Rel is a draft. Category suggestions are suggestions. Duplicate detection can mistake a second branch for a duplicate, and merging two real locations is a genuine loss. Check before you act, and don't submit anything to a directory that you haven't read.
We are not responsible for what happens to a listing, a ranking, or a business as a result of information you submitted, however you came by it.
Your account
One person per account. Keep your password to yourself. Tell us if you think someone else has it. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
Plans and payment
- Free covers one business, indefinitely, with no card.
- Paid plans bill monthly in advance through Stripe.
- Cancel any time, from the billing portal inside the app. You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for, then drop to Free. Your records stay.
- Refunds. If Placemark hasn't worked for you, email us within 30 days of a charge and we'll refund it. We'd rather do that than argue.
- If prices change, existing subscribers get 30 days' notice and can cancel before it applies.
Fair use
Don't use Placemark to:
- Submit information you know to be false to a directory.
- Create listings for businesses that don't exist, or that you have no relationship with.
- Build links through schemes that violate the search engines' own guidelines. What you do with the tool is your risk, not ours.
- Resell access, or run it as a service under your own name without asking us first.
- Hammer the scan or verification features in a way that costs us disproportionately. Plan limits exist; please don't go looking for ways around them.
We can suspend an account that does these things. We'll tell you why, and you'll still be able to export your data.
Availability
Placemark is run by one person and depends on services we don't control — Supabase, Netlify, Anthropic, Stripe, and the directories themselves. It will occasionally be down or degraded. There is no uptime guarantee, and we're not offering one we couldn't keep.
Some directories block automated requests. When that happens, verification says it couldn't check rather than guessing. That's a limitation of the web, not a fault we can fix.
Ending it
You can stop at any time. Export first — that's the one thing we'd ask.
We can close an account for the reasons under Fair use, or if we shut the service down. If we ever shut down, you'll get at least 60 days' notice and your export will keep working the whole time.
Liability
Placemark is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to what you've paid us in the previous twelve months. We're not liable for lost rankings, lost business, or lost data beyond that.
This isn't an attempt to dodge responsibility for the tool working. It's an acknowledgement that a $49 subscription can't underwrite the outcome of a client's search visibility.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, United States.
Changes
We'll email you before any change that affects you takes effect. Continuing to use Placemark after that means you accept the new version.
